Hạ Long Bay

Steep rock islands stand alone in green water, plants clinging to their grey sides.

The rock walls are nearly vertical and hung with green. The same water changes colour from photo to photo: grey-green under cloud, blue in sunshine. Under a pink-orange sky, layer after layer of island silhouettes stands behind a white multi-deck boat. One shot shows a rock undercut right at the waterline.

Hạ Long Bay belongs to Hạ Long, Quảng Ninh, in Vietnam, where coast, islands and nature meet. Come in autumn or winter. There are many tourists, but nothing here asks you to hurry.
