Machu Picchu

Stone ruins spread along a narrow ridge, a sharp green peak behind, a river far below.

Seen from above, walls and terraces fill a single ridge. Closer in, grass terraces step down past roofless stone houses with pointed gables, and people sit on the lawn while a stairway climbs beside a wall. The last photo stops beside grey boulders and narrow terraces at the edge of a cloud-filled valley.

Machu Picchu is in Cusco, Peru: ruins among mountains, and one of the best-known places in Locoku's catalog. Plan around the local winter or spring. It is busy with tourists, and days here tend to be full.
